Ending DADTWednesday, Feb. 03, 2010 3:46 AMBoth SecDef Robert Gates and SecNav Admiral Michael Mullen testified before Congress that DADT should be repealed. Even Senator John McCain, who continues to object to same-sex marriage despite his wife, Cindy, appearing in a 'No H8' ad, noted that if the brass thinks it's time to jettison the policy, it should go. Yet there's still some heel-dragging to be found. There apparently needs to be a study as to how to go about repealing the policy. May I suggest a simple announcement, coupled with a reiteration of anti-discrimination policies? It should be clear that bipartisanship is not something that can be achieved with the current GOP, as reflected in the results of a poll conducted by Daily Kos/Research 2000, in which self-identified Republicans continue to espouse views such as Obama not being born in the United States (36%), Obama being a socialist (63%), Obama being a racist (31%), and Sarah Palin being more qualified than Obama (53%). Right. A woman who never managed to learn what the Vice President does, a woman who imagines there's a 'Department of Law' in the White House, a woman who has to be spoon-fed the name of a founding father, and a woman who quit the very office that affords her 'superior' qualifications halfway through her term ... is more qualified. What a joke. Sadly, if the Democrats continue their habit of acting like the minority faction, no one will be laughing come November.
