Gone, But Not Forgotten?

In the wake of the 'blackout' protest (which the MPAA persists in calling an abuse of free speech) held on the web, the DOJ shut down the megaupload website.

Which establishes two things:
- piracy is a crime
- existing laws are being enforced

And underscores another:
- SOPA/PIPA are unnecessary

At least, the shotgun-in-a-crowd method of DNS blocking and the absence of due process are deeply flawed.

It is a temporary victory (largely because Congress has a record for slapping new coats of paint on failed dumbassery and running it up the flagpole again) that SOPA/PIPA are 'shelved.'
