We Don't Need Re-Education?

Tuesday, Apr. 07, 2009 3:53 AM

It's Opening Day for the San Francisco Giants, with Tim Lincecum taking the mound for a 1:05 PM start against the Milwaukee Brewers.

In last week's episode of On Enemy Lines*, Minnesota Congresswoman Michele Bachmann was warning us about the insidious plot to replace the U.S. dollar as our domestic currency, to the point of authoring a resolution that would amend the Constitution** to prevent the president from so betraying America.

This week, Bachmann is warning us that expansions to the AmeriCorps program could mean young people will be put into mandatory service, which means forcible re-education in a political philosophy espoused by 'the government.'***

*Yes, we know the correct usage is 'Behind Enemy Lines,' but Bachmann apparently doesn't.

**Yes, we know amending the Constitution calls for a 2/3rds majority vote from all 50 states, but Bachmann - and 29 of her colleagues - apparently don't.

***Yes, apparently Bachmann doesn't know she's part of that same government, either.

Apparently, Glenn Beck doesn't like the idea that his rantings, and those of his buddies like Chuckles the Ninja, may be responsible for the actions of people like Richard Poplawski, the gunman who killed three Pittsburgh police officers over the weekend, and he accuses sites like Daily Kos of trying to blame him for the incident. Oh, and that those darned liberals are trying to silence him.

Without absolving Poplawski of anything, people like Glenn Beck remain responsible for their inflammatory blathering, especially when Beck hosts a special encouraging the same anti-government mentality.

Oh, and if Beck wants to run with the 'I'm not responsible' line, he needs to consider that if a nutjob who hears Osama bin Laden's latest decides to blow up a building, well, Osama bin Laden ain't responsible, either.

Police have found the body of 8 year-old Sandra Cantu, the little girl from Tracy, California who went missing just over a week ago.

Find her killer, guys.
