Shots FiredMonday, Apr. 06, 2009 3:44 AMDetails are still emerging about Saturday's shooting of three Pittsburgh police officers, but it's sounding like the gunman, 23 year-old Richard Poplawski, was a white supremacist who was afraid that President Obama was going to take away his guns. With no small measure of responsibility laid at Poplawski's feet, perhaps some attention needs to be directed towards the babble coming out of people like Sean 'Fighting Tyrrany' Hannity, Glenn 'Got 'Em Surrounded' Beck, Chuck 'Got My Guns Right Here' Norris, and Rep. Michele 'Dollar Daze' Bachmann. We'll doubtless hear that it can't be any of their fault, they're just giving voice to serious concerns, yadda, yadda, yadda. Tell it to the families of the dead officers. Of course, there's been a number of multiple-victim shootings in the past week, including a murder-suicide in Santa Clara, CA; the shooting at an immigration service center in Binghamton, NY; and five children killed in Washington State. Is Poplawski just part of a larger pattern of fear and despair in the wake of the recession? Maybe our elected representatives need to start thinking about protecting citizens instead of financial executives' bonuses. The problem with the financial bailout, of course, isn't solely the lavish bonuses and expenditures of financial executives; it's the colossal chutzpah of taking $700 billion of taxpayer dollars to 'restore credit' - that is, loan us the money we're paying into the bailout, and charge us exorbitant interest on that money. Bristol Palin's former fiance, Levi Johnston, went on the Tyra Banks Show to talk about their relationship. Johnston says that Sarah Palin had to know he and Bristol were sexually active, and that Sarah insisted he appear with the family at various campaign events. And, right on cue - Sarah Palin's office released a statement criticising Levi's remarks and denouncing him as irresponsible. Because Sarah and her brood are perfect, you understand, and it's all the fault of other people - the 'gotcha' media, Levi Johnston, and former brother-in-laws.
