Leaks & SurgesThursday, Jun. 24, 2010 3:41 AMWe're back to where we started, with an unchecked flow of oil spilling into the Gulf of Mexico, as BP announced that they had 'temporarily' removed the cap after a robot submersible had bumped one of the vents. BP has no estimate on when that cap will be replaced. It's reasonable, however, in light of their previous efforts and estimates, to believe that if BP has consistently lowballed the size of the leak, then they're over-estimating their recovery/containment efforts. General Stanley McChrystal is out, and General David Petraeus is in. That's great. Now, quick, what's the mission? Is the mission to capture Osama bin Laden? Or is it to rebuild Afghanistan as a democracy? Did the mission change when President Bush decided the priority was chasing Saddam Hussein? Considering terrorists have been painted as non-state actors, why are all of our efforts predicated on regime change? We need to know what we're doing, and what resources we need to make that happen.
