McCain's Trifecta of FailFriday, Aug. 01, 2008 3:46 AMOne of the memes that people are trying to push out of the nest and have it take wing is that Barack Obama is elitist. So, naturally, we'll want to vote for the guy who wears $500 Ferragamo loafers on the campaign trail and is married to a millionaire heiress. And then there's the McCain ad that tries to dismiss Obama as a celebrity of the worst sort, mixing in shots of Obama with Britney Spears and Paris Hilton, implying that Obama is as qualified a leader as Spears is a mother, or something. It turns out that Mommy & Daddy Hilton donated to the McCain campaign, and they are not happy. Elsewhere, the McCain campaign is complaining that Obama is 'playing the race card' because of comments Obama made about not looking like the other presidents on our dollar bills. Both Exxon and Shell declared 'record profits' for the past quarter ($11.66 billion for Exxon). That breaks down to an approximate $90,000 per minute. (Exxon claims operating costs of roughly $1 million per minute ... but that means their raw revenue is over $1 million a minute.) Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger's big plan is to stick it to the state workers pulling minimum wage, because that'll get those legislators moving. Controller John Chiang has told the Gov to stick it. Remember, the base pay for a California state legislator is just under $100,000. Schwarzengger is directing pressure tactics at people who likely depend on steady income to pay bills and take care of their families. Perhaps its time we stop rewarding incompetence with six figures and tickets to higher office.
