Beware of AsteroidsWednesday, Nov. 09, 2011 4:44 AMFear and panic! A massive asteroid will pass close to the Earth! Call Harold Camping! Whoa, there. Let's keep things in scale. While the asteroid is larger in diameter than the Oakland Coliseum, that's peanuts in comparison to the distance between the Earth and the Moon - 250,000 miles. So while it's interesting from an astronomical/scientific viewpoint, the hype about 'close calls' and 'near misses' is silly.
