Independence and FreedomMonday, Jul. 04, 2011 4:42 AMIf you're going to watch fireworks, or a parade, or indulge in some other all-American pastime on this July 4th, good on you. But let's remember why we're doing it. We're celebrating our independence and the founding of this nation we call home. So why is our media and political discourse so full of fear? Why are we now seeing warrantless surveillance and searches being targeted against video piracy and marijuana growing operations? Are there threats? Most certainly. Are we in danger of waking up tomorrow and finding that we're in some bizarro world where a secret caliphate has taken over, your marriage is worthless, and unions are taking the food out of your mouth? No. Stop being afraid, America. We're nearly ten years out from 9/11, and yet Joe Lieberman is busy taking 'we'll get attacked again' for a spin. That's not leadership, that's an inspired imitation of Lord Haw-Haw and Tokyo Rose.
