We're Not Really ThereWednesday, Sept. 01, 2010 3:50 AMIn the wake of a mediocre speech by President Obama on the 'turning point' in Iraq, how is it that we've come to resemble Iraq more closely - by way of failing infrastructure; political and religious extremism; and a deadlocked, ineffective government - than Iraq ever came to resemble a prosperous and free nation? Was it worth all of the lives and billions of dollars we spent? (And are still spending?) Are we safer? Obama can talk all he wants about tests and challenges, but the truth is, he's simply presiding over the mess created by George W. Bush & Dick Cheney, using Bush-era metrics, no 'Mission Accomplished' banner necessary.
