Crazy Talk From Crazy PeopleMonday, Sept. 28, 2009 3:53 AMRep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minnesota), who has previously asserted that the Census is the groundwork for putting Americans (i.e., conservatives) into modern-day internment camps and that she, personally, won't participate in the Census ... dodged a question on last week's death of a Census worker, who was found hanged and the word 'FED' written on his chest. Appearing on FOX News Sunday, Sen. Dianne Feinstein says she has no problem with relocating 'illegal enemy combatants' from Guantanamo Bay to one of California's maximum security prisons. On the other hand, the distinguished gentleman from Missouri, Sen. Kit Bond, suggested re-opening Alcatraz, since we wouldn't want terrorists preaching Islam to the general prison population. Alcatraz, for the abysmally stupid and chronically clueless (yes, Senator Bond, you qualify as both), closed in 1963. Not only would it take millions to renovate the property, the island itself no longer benefits from the relative isolation of being in the middle of San Francisco Bay. You'd have to establish an exclusion zone and implement patrols to keep smaller boats from approaching the island. It's a sign of how incompetent some of our elected representatives are when it comes to issues of security. Alcatraz shouldn't even be part of a sensible discussion on where to put detainees.
