Loyalty Oaths and Witch HuntsFriday, Oct. 17, 2008 4:31 PMBreak out the loyalty oaths. On MSNBC's Hardball, Rep. Michelle Bachmann (R-Minnesota) told Chris Matthews: "What I would say is that the news media should do a penetrating expose and take a look. I wish they would. I wish the American media would take a great look at the views of the people in Congress and find out if they are pro-America or anti-America." Not far behind is Sarah Palin, who today gushed about how she loved visiting the pro-America parts of America. Because obviously, when you're in the middle of crowds shouting things like 'KILL HIM,' and 'TERRORIST!', when you have Republican party officials posting 'WATERBOARD BARACK OBAMA' on their websites, why, mmmmmm, you can just feel that love of country. Now, this kind of nonsense isn't all that surprising when we've had nearly eight years of fake patriotism, flag pins, 'patriotic' laws, fascist-sounding, bureaucracies foisted upon us, and holidays with names like, 'Loyalty Day' and 'Patriot Day.' I suppose, since the administration approves of waterboarding and Congress won't impeach those responsible, we can not only look forward to a redux of the Army-McCarthy Hearings, but the added joy of witch-dunkings, presided over by Sarah Palin and her witch-hunting pastor buddy. I suppose I should pack a bag so as to be ready when those nice young men from Blackwater show up to take me to the relocation camp ...
