He Said What?

No, Andy Rooney did not make a hate-filled commentary on 60 Minutes denouncing minorities and an assortment of other social issues.

A relative (a different one this time) forwarded me the phony item with the subject line, 'CBS Didn't Stop Him! This Is Great!'

If there's something that will draw my anger faster than the usual 'please pass this to everyone you know' internet hoax bullshit, it's going to be one that happens to involve my line of work. It takes less than a minute to visit Snopes or the Urban Legend Reference Pages at About.com and check the facts. (Or, for a change, how about visiting the CBS News website and checking the archive of Andy Rooney's commentaries?)

If you want to pass on saccharine-filled poems from 'my son, a Marine stationed in Anbar Province' or 'the father of a soldier who was killed in Iraq,' that's well and good. There's nothing wrong with patriotism or prayers.

But what does it say when you embrace something like the phony Rooney commentary without so much as a critical thought, because it expresses an 'America, love it or leave it' view?

Considering other family members had to enter the country on paper names due to the Chinese Exclusion Act, maybe you'd like to consider that the views you're currently espousing not only justify such laws, but demean our Chinese heritage in numerous ways.
