Toys For The FearfulThursday, Feb. 28, 2008 4:13 AMBleh. I'm Hillary/Obama'd out, except for the little dustup where conservative talker Bill Cunningham made a point of emphasizing Barack Obama's middle name (Hussein! Ooooooh, scary!), then got all upset when John McCain (the candidate Cunningham was appearing on behalf of) apologized for Cunningham's actions. There's just something fundamentally wrong with these toys. They're teaching that checkpoints and lines = good security, which isn't always true. Our children need to be taught awareness and critical thinking, and a better understanding of security translates into less fear (and less traction for the fear-mongering crowd). Also from Bruce Schneier's Security Blog is an item on why some attacks succeed and others fail. (Note the absence of warrantless surveillance and telecom immunity.)
