Dan Rather Was Fired For Less

Monday, Apr. 16, 2007 3:46 PM

As if it weren't bad enough that Katie Couric has fawned all over Condoleezza Rice, and stooped to Glenn Beck-style sewer journalism with a 'some say' interview of John & Elizabeth Edwards, in the past two weeks, Couric's blog has hit two major speed bumps.

The first was the direct plagiarism of a column on libraries that initially appeared in the Wall Street Journal.

The second was an entry that questioned whether or not America was ready for a president who had attended an Islamic madrassa a FOX News talking point that was categorically disproven by CNN.

Dan Rather was fired for less.

It goes without saying, particularly in the press of immediacy that modern communications now provides, that mistakes will be made. Plagiarism is not one of them, nor is the repeating of an outright lie that was laid bare months ago. As Managing Editor of the CBS Evening News, Couric needs to show her professionalism and address both the plagiarism and the parroting of the madrassa rumor, instead of hiding behind quickly re-edited pieces.

She's dating a man seventeen years her junior, who is obviously able to put the wood to her when she needs it. Sex clouds the mind. :-)
