Christmas Day, 2006Monday, Dec. 25, 2006 2:50 AMSome random thoughts on this Christmas Day Wal-Mart is not a church. Why are Christians getting upset if greeters don't say, "Merry Christmas"? Why is saying, "Happy Holidays" unacceptable when the word is derived from 'holy days'? Conservatives like Bill O'Reilly and John Gibson bemoan the War on Christmas. But in the midst of World War I, on Christmas Eve in 1914, there was no War on Christmas. Perhaps there's a lesson to be learned there. For heaven's sake, would y'all just slow down on the road? If traffic is heavy and the malls are crowded, being an asshole isn't going to improve the situation. (And if you have children in tow, you're not setting a good example whether the focal point of your celebrations is Santa Claus or Christ Jesus.) Yes, I know Thanksgiving was in November, but it doesn't hurt to be thankful for many of those same blessings a month later. The magic words are, "Please," "Thank You," and "You're Welcome." There is magic in a child's smile. Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus. Wishing all the bright blessings of the season to my family and friends.
