Facts & FundingMonday, Aug. 14, 2006 1:07 PMThis is what the suspects in last week's terrorism plot planned on using. Note that ingredients do not involve anything found in a sports drink. It is a recent, but not a 'new' weapon, as President Bush claimed. Failed bomber Richard Reid tried using it as a detonator in 2001. And it is also used by suicide bombers in the Middle East. It should also be noted that the Bush Administration sought to cut back funding on bomb detection systems, when TATP is one of several explosive compounds that cannot be reliably detected with current systems. Note: This is a commentary about recent events, and not a discussion of methodology or composition of highly voilatile and dangerous substances.
