No Holds Barred?

Signposts on the road to hell

Alberto Gonzales saying that we're not obligated to try 'enemy combatants' and can hold them indefinitely. (So, why, exactly, are we expecting Hezbollah to release the Israeli soldiers ...?)

Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton playing to her base by grilling Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld over the execution of military action in both Iraq and Afghanistan.

"I have never painted a rosy picture. I've been very measured in my words and you'd have a dickens of a time trying to find instances where I've been excessively optimistic. I understand this is tough stuff," said Rumsfeld.

Weeks, not months. Untidiness. Turning corners.

Why is the President on vacation?

He was on vacation prior to September 11, despite credible warnings.

He was on vacation prior to Hurricane Katrina, despite credible warnings.

And now he's on vacation while the Middle East pressure cooker boils over on his watch.

"My guess is he's going to be working pretty hard," White House spokesman Tony Snow said. "So this is not something where he's simply going to be gallivanting and ignoring the realities of the situation."

Like when Bush couldn't remember the word hurricane?

I can appreciate that there's precious little time for the nation's chief executive to carve out a week for himself and his family. But this clown is already on the books as a president who has set records for the amount of time he's spent on vacation.

Would it hurt to show some leadership here? Oh, wait, this is the moron who went to the G-8 Summit and shot his mouth off while chewing, showed his ignorance of world geography, and tried to molest another head of state.

Let's leave off our jaunt down the highway to hell, and move on.

Game publisher Guardians of Order is going out of business. Founder Mark MacKinnon is leaving the business to focus on rebuilding the strength of his family, and making a financial recovery.

Guardians has published several game systems, including Silver Age Sentinels, and held the rights to the Amber Diceless RPG created by Erick Wujcik and based on the works of Roger Zelazny.

(In a separate post on a message board, Erick says the rights to publish Amber DRPG will be transferred to another party, yet to be named.)
