Cowboy President or Rodeo Clown?Tuesday, Jul. 18, 2006 12:45 AMLet's be honest. George W. Bush will never be the statesman he imagines himself to be. He's an immature little puke, the frat boy amid princes at the G-8 Summit. The Emperor has been naked since the Supreme Court put him in the Oval Office. The media has been doing little more than commenting on his daring fashion sense. Congress is busy buying their fall wardrobe in the same style. We are truly playing hopscotch in a minefield. Do we now seek a third conflict in the Middle East in which to embroil ourselves? Is this the bloom of democracy throughout the region, or a field sown with hate, watered with blood, and due a harvest of vengeance in years to come? Are these not the very same people who used to lament how America had become the world's policeman? Even were we to express our desire for a cease-fire and diplomatic solution, the track record for the Bush Administration belies such words. We insisted on free and fair elections for Palestine, then denounced Hamas when they won. We toppled a brutal dictator, but three years later, the place is still a shambles. And President Bush has already chosen sides. Would you accept an invitation to the negotiating table from someone who had voiced their disgust so frankly?
Minister - 2006-07-18 06:40:09 And if we were on the Titanic, just how would Bush declaring we'd been gouged by an iceberg help the situation? It's how that fact (Hezbollah bearing responsibility) plays into foreign policy and diplomacy that is important, and, unfortunately, the phrasing speaks for itself. Brin - 2006-07-18 02:26:14 His fratboy delivery notwithstanding -- he also happened to have been right. :-P |
