Godspeed, DiscoverySaturday, Jul. 1, 2006 2:00 AMMay the Discovery and all aboard her have a successful mission and safe return to Earth. Update Monday, July 3 There are some new concerns about the foam insulation on the external fuel tank, though NASA Director Michael Griffin is still giving the green light for a launch attempt on Tuesday. Please, Lord, make this decision based on safety and not some grand display of patriotic symbolism. Update - Tuesday, July 4 Discovery launched successfully. But I question the soundness of the decision when NASA will be going over the launch footage to make sure there weren't any wayward chunks of foam falling off the external fuel tank. If there were, and we were to belatedly realize Discovery was damaged, how would we get the crew back home safely, hmm?
