A Winter's EveningWednesday, Dec. 14, 2005 2:08 AMIt's early evening. It's cold out here, expected to drop to near freezing overnight. A waxing gibbous moon is rising into the sky, the barest glimmer of sunlight still visible to the west. A ribbon of high clouds hide behind the branches of elm trees that line the street. And then the distant honking of geese. A moment later, the v-formation flies into view from below and behind the hill where we live. They pass over the street and head south. Their calls fade into the twilight, and there is nothing but the moon, the clouds, and the Christmas lights decorating a neighbor's house. Quiet and peaceful.
