EarthquakeSaturday, Nov. 26, 2005 11:04 PMAround 1:15 this afternoon, we had a small earthquake. Preliminary magnitude is 2.3, and the epicenter is less than a mile from my house. My initial reaction to the jolt was 'earthquake,' but the squirrel in the tree outside the kitchen window didn't bolt, and the cats weren't hiding/freaked out. A neighbor was working in his yard as if nothing had happened (I later learned he'd both felt and heard the quake). So I checked the plumbing in the basement, just to make sure nothing was gushing water all over the floor. Incidentally, correlating the epicenter of the quake to the location of my house was done by entering the USGS latitude & longitude data into Google Maps ... and then asking for directions to that spot.
