A Halloween Scare We Can Do WithoutFriday, Sept. 30, 2011 6:41 AMWith the death of Muslim cleric Anwar al-Awlaki and the domestic arrest of a man who sought to use model airplanes to convey explosives, it's time once again to ask WHY ARE WE SO AFRAID? Can model airplanes be used for terrorism? Of course. So can baby strollers. So can cars. Are people calling for bans against cars and baby strollers? Are we insisting 'mothers' submit their 'children' to searches Just So We Can Be Safe? That fear you're feeling? That concern over whether or not some mystery Muslim is going to pop out of the woodwork and blow you up? It's called terror. And as long as you allow yourself to be terrorized, the terrorists are winning. It's time to get off this particular bus, America. We've been on it before, with the Japanese Internment and McCarthy Era - it doesn't take us anywhere we want to be.
