Shutdown Showdown

Monday, Sept. 26, 2011 5:40 AM

If you were a small business owner and faced with a 'shutdown' every three months, it'd be a good bet that you'd be out of business in short order. If you were a larger corporation, you certainly wouldn't be sitting on the executive board. (Or perhaps you'd be getting six-figure bonuses to reward you for 'superior performance' and 'hard work.')

So, as we close on another impending 'government shutdown,' it's time to ask if Congress is simply incompetent or dysfunctional (I mean, come on, they're in recess - they couldn't even plan for continued and smooth operation until they reconvened), and what voters can do to remedy this situation.

Is it as simple as looking for honest men and women? People who aren't making pie-in-the-sky promises about taxes and marriage and fixing all that is broken? People who actually know what the Constitution says? Or their American History?

Because the current field, including the present office holder, aren't earning good marks in any of these categories.
