Avatar, Schmavatar?

Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2010 4:02 AM

Via their official newspaper and radio station, the Vatican is lambasting James Cameron's Avatar as bland, simplistic, and sappy.

But Vatican spokesman Rev. Federico Lombardi also notes that the critique parallels the Holy Father's concern that environmentalism is becoming a kind of neo-paganism.

And, perhaps, if there were more Christians running about showing honest compassion and concern over the state of the world rather than starting wars, advocating torture, or being blowhards like William Donohue, intimations of a people living in harmony with creation would be more of a compliment than a contrast.
