The No Computer BluesMonday, Dec. 29, 2008 3:50 AMChristmas at the Ministry has been overshadowed by the failure of our MacBook Pro. It's in the shop awaiting a diagnosis (it's either a bad logic board or bad RAM). Fortunately, it's all under warranty. And then there was the bout of stomach flu or whatever horrible intestinal goolies are making the rounds. Dragged myself to the office on Christmas Eve, went home sick three hours later, crashed and slept for 14 hours. That was just so I could have a shot at being at work on Christmas, which isn't just the usual hazard of being in news, but further complicated by our having cut back staff levels earlier in the year. One heroic effort later, I get home and crash for another 12 hours. I didn't really feel entirely better until Saturday. I swear, if I hear one more Republican talking head gush about how President Bush kept us safe from the terrorists, I think I'll scream. Amid the year-end best-and-worst blather on the McLaughlin Report, host John McLaughlin opined that all the people whining about how we need to invest in education to become competitive in the global economy are wrong. Because we have educated people in our counry, and our economy is still tanking, so obviously, all that education shit is overrated. Um ... ooooookay. Sure.
