No Parachutes? No Way!

Tuesday, Oct. 07, 2008 3:54 AM

Even as they were sending workers home and closing their doors, Lehman Brothers executives were arranging their golden parachutes, with CEO Richard Fuld taking home $350 million, and $20 million in bonuses for three other executives.

When this was questioned by employees, executives including one George Herbert Walker - a cousin of President George W. Bush - defended the decision to award the bonuses.

And as we head for the second debate between Obama and McCain, be mindful of the spin from the media and the usual passel of experts, who are constantly reversing their positions based on one poll or another, or ignoring the contradictions in McCain's campaign - decrying negative ads, then using them; or denouncing Clinton's use of Rev. Jeremiah Wright in campaign material; then bringing it up themselves; ignoring McCain and Palin's own problematic associations with radicals and radical groups to paint Obama as some kind of closet terrorist.

Still, I have to wonder how tonight's debate - which is supposed to focus on the economy and foreign policy - will go off when McCain has been quick to abandon the subject after his failed stunt to 'suspend his campaign' and work on the bailout bill went.

I'll leave it to Dave over at Chez Too Old to talk about the Angels' loss to the Boston Red Sox.
