September Song & Dance

Monday, Jun. 18, 2007 9:27 AM

Wait until September.

That, according to the White House, is when we will know whether or not the Amazing Surge has um surged. Or whatever surges do.

It certainly hasn't cut into the capability of either side to blow up each other's mosques and inflame the populace. It certainly hasn't slowed or stopped the casualty count; we had barely crossed 3,000 at the start of the year, and we're over 3,500 now.

In the meantime, the White House is jettisoning JCS Chair Gen. Peter Pace because his confirmation hearing would be contentious. Why is it contentious? Could it be that, despite years of 'just a little longer' and 'the situation is improving,' people are looking at the mess that is Iraq and realizing they're being bullshitted?

Jon Stewart did an artful takedown of White House spokesman Tony Snow, using video of Snow's denial that the firing of eight U.S. attorneys was for political reasons.

Last week, Snow denied ever saying that.

Hmm. If it's cold when there's global warming, does hot weather mean there's global cooling?

I'm kidding, y'all.
