Not Praying Hard Enough?

Wednesday, Jun. 06, 2007 2:01 PM

Like I said, it would only be a matter of time before someone did something stupid on the political front

In this case, it's President Bush. To fill the post of Surgeon General, he's nominated Dr. James Holsinger, who has certain views on homosexualtiy.

As in, it can be cured through prayer and therapy.

What's next, a return to leeching and drilling holes in people's skulls to evacuate the evil spirits?

Following close behind are the folks running the Creation Museum in Kentucky, persisting in the 'evolution is just a theory' delusion and making things up to fit their interpretation of the Bible.

This is like Ptolemaic astronomy. In order to explain the retrograde motion of the planets, they added 'epicycles' into the orbits of the planets. And when that didn't work, they added more. When men like Galileo and Copernicus talked about the Sun being at the center of the solar system rather than the Earth, they were told to shut up, because It Was Abundantly Clear That God Had Made Things With Man And Earth At The Center.

As it turns out, they were wrong, and the Copernican model was proven to be true.

The list of luminaries writing letters to the judge on behalf of Scooter Libby is amazing. Former SecDef Donald Rumsfeld. Henry Kissinger. General Peter Pace. Disgraced World Bank executive Paul Wolfowitz. Douglas Feith. Mary Matalin.

Poor Scooter. He was just a victim of circumstance. He's really a nice boy. Won't you reduce his sentence?

And before President Bush gets into a staredown with Russian President Vladimir Putin, someone needs to tell the Cowboy-in-Chief that the gorram missile defense network doesn't work. It's based almost entirely on a series of tests where the parameters for success were determined after the test, rather than before.

Unlike North Korea, Russia has missiles that work.
